The aim of present study was to determine the effect of genetic and non-genetic factors on total female calves born and female calves reached milking herd traits. Data on total female calves born and female calves reached milking herd traits in PhuleTriveni crossbred cattle maintained at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri, District Ahmednagar (MS) under Research-Cum-Development Project over a period of thirty nine years from 1976 to 2014 were analyzed in the study. Data were grouped into different sub-classes of season of calving, period of calving, age at first calving and genetic group of animals. In this study average genetic variability for number of total female calves born was found to be 1.96 ± 0.01. Period of birth, season of birth, age at first calving (AFC) and variations due to generation had nonsignificant effect on number of total female calves born however, first lactation milk yield group and random effect of sire had significant influence on total female calves born trait. Theaverage genetic variability for number of female calves reached milking herd was 1.53 ± 0.07. Period of birth, season of birth, age at first calving (AFC), variations due to generation, lactation milk yield and random effect of sire had non-significanteffect on number of female calves reached milking herd Different non-genetic factors showed their influence on the considered traits demonstrating that there is further scope for improvement in management practices of Phule Triveni crossbred cattle herd.
