Cultural and Morphological Variability in Phytophthora drechsleri f.sp. cajani Causing Pigeon-pea Blight

Pigeon pea Cajanus cajan L. Millsp. is one of the important pulse crops in India and now become popular in Northern India in pigeon pea-wheat cropping system. Among the diseases of short-duration pigeon pea, Phytophthora blight caused by Phytophthora drechsleri f. sp. cajani is destructive in nature and prevalent in all the major pigeon pea growing states of India. Cultural and morphological variability in Phytophthora sp. has been reported by Chauhan et al. 2001. Therefore,the present study was undertaken to determine these differences existing in the population of Phytophthora drechsleri f. sp. cajani collected from various parts of northern India.
