We would like to congratulate Cao. on their study on the long-term results of treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP), focussing the attention not only on the anatomical success rate, but also on the impact of surgical therapy on sexual function. To improve clinical outcomes of POP treatment, various new techniques, including use of biological and synthetic grafts have been advocated.2 Whilst some authors have suggested an improvement,3 other studies have demonstrated a negative impact of mesh on sexual function.4 In order to confirm that POP surgery has some adverse effects on sexual activity, we provide information from our experience on the long-term outcomes of our experience comparing standard anterior colporrhaphy (AC) with reinforced anterior colporrhaphy using synthetic mesh (ACM) in women with symptomatic anterior vaginal wall prolapse.
