Community Empowerment Model on the Ability in Health Problem Solving: A Community-Based Study in Indonesia

The purpose of the study was to find out and to analyze the factors relating to the community empowerment in ability of health problem solving, and to formulate the community empowerment model. The study used the combined quantitative and qualitative methods. The survey research withpath analysis was used in the quantitative method while the case study was used in the qualitative method. The study was conducted in 30 villages in Karanganyar district of Central Java province of Indonesia. This research resulted that social capital and community participation related tothe ability in health problem solving by 64.2%. The community empowerment model in ability of health problem solving consisted of input, process and output factors. Input factors consisted of internal and external factors. Internal factors included education level, knowledge, awareness, leadership,economic status, social capital, community participation, local resource, village community discussion. External factors included access to information, the role of health workers, facilitators, village, sub-district and districts governments, and fund support. Meanwhile the process involvedthe efficiently resource use and utilization within the community, and facilitation. The output was the community forcefulness in the ability of health problem solving.
