SINGE 4 JANUARY 2012 THE Luftwaffe has once again been heading NATO's Baltic: Air Policing mission to protect the airspace over the: Baltic States. Under the established rotation system the Luftwaffe took over the responsibility from Denmark, and will continue the mission as part of NATO's integrated air defence system until 27 April. Once again, the Luftwaffe mission is handled by a contingent of IMF Phantom IIs from Jagdgeschwader 71 'Richthofen' (Fighter Wing 71) at Wittmund. This is reinforced by Objektschutzregiment 'Friesland' from lever, which is providing fire protection services.
