The phantom (1a) has a set of balls (3, 9, 11), and a three dimensional lattice that is formed by the arrangement of the balls in the phantom. The three dimensional lattice is formed by three principal axis. The phantom is asymmetrically formed such that orientation of the phantom during formation of an image is determined from an image of the phantom, where the balls comprise different diameter.
