Ohio Valley Marine seeking to expand along the Ohio River

Ohio Valley Marine Service, a coal hauler in westernKentucky, is asking the Army Corps of Engineers to modifyan existing permit to expand its barge fleeting operationlocated at mile marker 786.5 on the Ohio River, at themouth of the Green River in Henderson County.The company wants to move the fleeting area about 700 feetupstream from its current location and expand its fleeting capacityby an additional 12 barges. A company official said Tuesday thechanges are needed to help meet customer fleeting requirementsand for future growth. The official, who asked not to be identified,said Ohio Valley only transports coal. He declined to reveal howmuch coal the company hauls annually or identify its customers.Ohio Valley operates four towing vessels and moves coalon the Tennessee and Cumberland rivers in addition to theOhio and Green.
