Among a few near shore fungi isolated Aspergillus cervinus was a highly potent species for the protease production. The protease from A. cervinus showed peak activity at pH 5 and it was stable between the pH range of 5 and 6, However, 90% of the activity was maintained at pH 7. Above pH 7, the enzyme was unstable. There was a sudden fall to 20% activity at pH 9, Further, the protease from A. carvinus registered peak activity at 45°C, Whereas the thermal stability was In the biokinetlc range of 10-50°C. The response of the protease from A, cervinus to certain group specific inhibitors suggested that.it Is of an acid type of protease. The results of the present investigation suggest that this species can be used for the degradation of animal and plant waste In the coastal environment.
