Sasol Updates on Lake Charles Project; Raises Cost Estimate bv About $1-Bn

Lake Charles-Sasol said it has updated its guidance for its Lake Charles Chemicals Project (LCCP) at Westlake in Lake Charles, La., following a review to assess the project's costs and schedule (PCN, 25 Mar 2019, p 1). LCCP, originally estimated to cost up to $11.8-billion, includes a 1.5-million-t/y ethane cracker, a 420,000-t/y low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant, a 470,000-t/y linear LDPE unit, which came online this past February, and units for the production of ethylene oxide (EO), ethylene glycol (EG) and derivatives.
