US Grants Eight Sanctions Waivers for Iran Imports

Six months after announcing he would pull out of the international agreement on Iran's nuclear program, US President Donald Trump and his administration will reimpose oil sanctions on Tehran. Washington expects to issue eight waivers to "jurisdictions" that have already made significant reductions to their purchases of Iranian crude by the Nov. 5 sanctions start-up date, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Friday. The administration also is forecasting a drop of 1 million barrels per day in Iranian crude exports over peak volumes earlier this year before the deadline - a significant drop, but hardly the "zero" sales of Iranian crude that Trump officials have often stated was their goal.
