I write in response to Jane Kirton's letter (PJ, 14 January 2012, p34) and concur with Martin Astbury's comments that such matters regarding terms and conditions fall primarily into the domain of a trade union and not a professional representative body. Miss Kirton's frustration is shared by many pharmacists and is a feature of some local negotiations between trust managers and the major unions, such as Unite, which are formally recognised by the NHS for the purposes of negotiations on pay and conditions.
