Cancer survival rates vary across PCTs in England, according to new report

Variation in cancer survival rates across primary care trusts in England is revealed by Mike Richards, national cancer director, in the latest annual report for the cancer reform strategy, published by the Department of Health. The variation is biggest for lung cancer survival, with patients in Herefordshire three times more likely to die within a year of diagnosis than patients in Kensington and Chelsea. The one-year survival rate for lung cancer patients in Herefordshire was 15.4 per cent, compared with Kensington and Chelsea's rate of 43.7 per cent. The national average is 28.1 per cent.
