US regulators to widen ‘Bakken Blitz’ study

Washington —US regulators said Thursday they will widen their study of crude originating from the prolific Bakken Shale formation to try and understand what makes the oil more flammable than other crudes. The announcement comes several days after a BNSF Railway crude-carrying train derailed and caught fire in east North Dakota. Major Bakken Shale oil producer Continental Resources said Thursday that there will likely be “minor delays” of eastward rail shipments from North Dakota due to the accident.
