The motor powered appliance for regulating or extending the width of chimneys, flues or similar ducts, is hoisted and lowered inside by means of a traction element. The impact element carrying the appliance is preferably a hollow cylinder with the impact mechanism projecting inside it with a plunger on the cylinder base. There may be an encompassing telescopic unit with a bottom inwards angled edge overlapping an outward angled edge at the top of the cylinder. A traction cable at the bottom of the impact mechanism may be fixed to it by bolts through holes in the cylinder base, with a loop at the bottom. Operation is more reliable, with canting easily rectified.
