Washington—The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released a pair of new oil pipeline reporting rules September 20 designed to make it easier for the commission and shippers to determine whether pipelines are charging fair rates. “The same technology that is powering [the shale gas] revolution is also fueling a dramatic increase in the production of oil and oil products in many parts of the country,” Commissioner John Norris said at the commission’s monthly meeting. “As industry looks to maintain and build out the infrastructure and bring these resources from production to market it is critical to ensure that the rates that underwrite this infrastructure are just and reasonable.”
