Australia releases draft gas line legislation

Sydney-The Australian government November 10 released draft legislation to establish a new national regulatory scheme for access to gas pipelines. The new law is scheduled to be implemented July 1, 2007. "The National Gas Law exposure draft proposes reforms to cut red tape for companies negotiating access to gas infrastructure," Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane said in a statement. "It's a key reform agreed by the Ministerial Council on Energy and transfers the administration of the existing gas access regimes from state-based regulators to one national body, the Australian Energy Regulator."
