Slashing its carbon footprint and recycling its waste water have helped earn Ardo UK a prestigious business award in its home county. The Charing-based frozen fruit and vegetable specialist won the Business Commitment to the Environment Category in the Kent Excellence in Business Awards. The judges said that Ardo UK had "set a benchmark for other manufacturers" and had "made the environment a key element of its strategy". They commended the company for cutting its carbon footprint by 45% since 2007 and installing a treatment plant that returned water used during the manufacturing process back to the mains as potable water. The water treatment plant itself is partly powered by waste heat from the cold store.
