Australia to Further Scrutinize the Shell-BG Merger

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will delay its decision on the proposed $82 billion Royal Dutch Shell-BG megamerger by another two months as it seeks more industry views and information before deciding whether the merger threatens gas competition in Queensland. The ACCC had already pushed back by two weeks its initial statement, and the new delay is certain to prompt speculation about what negotiated remedy BG and Shell may offer to secure approval of their deal (IOD Sep.4'15).
