Arab States Abandon Syria

Syria's list of allies continues to dwindle, with neighboring Jordan calling on Monday for President Bashar al-Assad to step down. That follows the Arab League's decision on Saturday to suspend Syria, one of the group's founding members (IOD Nov.4'11). "If Bashar has the interest of his country, he would step down, but he would also cre- ate an ability to reach out and start a new phase of Syrian political life," Jordan's King Abdullah said in an interview with the BBC.
