Beleaguered oil giant BP is considering selling three assets in Venezuela to its Russian joint venture TNK-BP as it looks to raise up to $30 billion in an accelerated divestment program to cover its Gulf of Mexico cleanup costs (IOD Jul.28,p1). TNK-BP - to which outgoing BP boss Tony Hayward has been nominated as a nonexecutive director - said in a statement Thursday that it supports the ambitions of its 50% shareholder to “strategically realign its asset base in Venezuela and is actively evaluating the opportunity to participate in the assets.”
