Aluminum deox tags for March bids fell far below expectations as producers blamed each other for inexplicably discounting prices. While demand from steel mills for deox was healthy, two major producers suggested steel mills had been more conservative in their contract buying for March. “March is the first month where it looks like there will be a slight downturn for steel and deox,” one Midwest producer said. “I hear steel mills could cut prices by $20 to $40 in March. If they're dropping numbers, that's an indication that demand for deox could slip a little. It won't be significant though. From a total of 22 million pounds, it could go to 21.5 million pounds in March. It's not much. It's like one truckload spread over a dozen producers.”
