Effects of nonselective endothelin-1 receptor antagonism on cardiac mast cell-mediated ventricular remodeling in rats

All experiments were performed using 9 wk (200-250 g) male Sprague-Dawley rats housed under standard environmental conditions and maintained on commercial rat chow and tap water ad libitum. All studies conformed to the principles of the National Institutes of Health's Guide for the Care and Use ofLaboratory Animals and were approved by our Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Anesthesia for the experimental procedure was effected by pentobar-bital sodium (50 mg/kg ip).
