The objectives of this study are to analyze the facts about vehicle compatibility involved in traffic accidents in Japan and various factors influencing this, and to examine an appropriate method for compatibility evaluation. In the presentstudy, the traffic accident situation in Japan as well as vehicle mass that affects the vehicle compatibility are analyzed in relation to the casualty situations of the vehicle drivers. As a result, in a frontal impact crash between two bonnet-typepassenger cars, a car heavier than 1400kg is l.8 times as aggressive as its counterpart with a weight of 1,000kg or less.
