A Study in Coherence : Paragraph Development in English and Japanese

摘要

This paper produces a brief introduction of the study of cohesion and coherence. A definition of coherence is discussed. The argumentative patters in student writing of English and Japanese speakers are introduced, analyzed, and compared from a pointof view of cultural backgrounds. The importance of the combining study of linguistics, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics is emphasized.
