GEORGIA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD CH-47F In early 2014, the Georgia Army National Guard's Det 1, Bravo Company, 1-169th General Support Aviation Battalion (B/1 -169th GSAB) said goodbye to Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, and traveled 5,000 miles to Afghanistan to support Operation 'Enduring Freedom' with its new CH-47F Chinooks. After flying the CH-47D for many years, Bravo Company took delivery of six new F-model Chinooks in 2010. The trusty D-model is being replaced throughout the US Army, and over 300 CH-47Fs have been delivered to the service since 2006. The CH-47 was designed in the 1950s and seems to get better with age. The CH-47 has flown with the US Army since 1962 and has played an integral role in every major combat operation since. If you took one of the helicopters that rolled off the line in 1962 and put it next to an F-model you'd be hard-pressed to see much in terms of external differences, save the new low-observable paint.
