Advances in diabetes thinking: a critical summary and analysis of keystone 2009.

The University of Colorado Denver and the Children's Diabetes Foundation's Summer 2009 Conference held in Keystone, CO, from July 17 to 19, entitled "Practical Ways to Achieve Targets in Diabetes Care," brought together some of the most important names in diabetes-Drs. Richard Ber-genstal, George Eisenbarth, Ralph DeFronzo, Satish Garg, David Harlan, Irl Hirsch, David Owens, David Schade, and Jay Skyler-among many others. The presenters shared with doctors, nurses, and educators insight into patient care based on the most recent research. With striking clinical, scientific, and public health implications, the talks were not only important for the everyday practice of diabetes care, but also for the field as a whole. Here we review our impressions of the conference's most compelling points.
