摘要

In December 2000, Congress passed, and President Clinton signed, Public Law 106-554. which extended Medicare provider eligibility to registered dietitians (RDs) (and nutrition professionals as defined by the act)* providing medical nutrition therapy(MNT) to patients with diabetes and nondialysis kidney disease. Although it appeared to be a simple provision, enactment of this legislation changed the dietetics profession. RDs were recognized as Medicare providers, but few understood the extent of theramifications at that time.
