Distal clavicle tunnel widening after coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction with semitendinous tendon: a case report.

Done tunnel enlargement after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction was first reported in the early and mid 1990s. Various graft sources, preservation techniques, methods of fixation, and rehabilitation protocols have been considered as possible factors leading to the enlargement phenomenon, but the etiology still remains unknown. However, hamstring tendon autografts seem to cause more tunnel widening compared with patella tendon autografts. Since 1999, we have been performing coracoclavicular (CC) ligament reconstruction with a semitendinous autograft tendon, making a 4.5-mm-diameter tunnel to the distal clavicle to pass the tendon for acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation patients. We present a case in which distal clavicle tunnel widening was observed after CC ligament reconstruction with a semitendinous tendon autograft.
