Synthesis of Unsymmetrical Alkynes via the Alkylation of Sodium Acetylides

The transition from cookbook verification experiments to inquiry-based experiments in the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory has been the topic of many recent articles in this Journal (1-6).As part of our efforts to modernize our first-semester organic laboratory,we developed this experiment with several common goals in mind.
