An advanced motion control system is vital to the operation of a British-developed 30m-high extendable camera mast that can provide spectacular shots even in Force 7 winds. A British cameraman has developed a 12-storey tall camera mast that supports a 50kg camera to provide high-angle aeriai shots for film and TV in wind speeds up to Force 7. Designing the 30m-high mast posed a series of challenges, some of which were solved by using a motion control system to position the mast smoothly and to provide stability during filming. The Vortex Aerial Mount Camera System was developed by Matthew Gladstone with help from the automation specialist Machinery Control Systems (MCS). It can be erected in minutes to provide spectacular shots for outside broadcast and film studio work.
