Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) is conducting studies to facilitate building the country's first LNG terminal on Moheshkhali island. The Financial Express of Bangladesh reported Feb. 11, citing a top GSB official. "We are hopeful of completing the study within February," said the official. In January, four companies — a consortium of U.S.-based Astra Oil and Excelerate Energy, South Korea's Samsung C&T Corporation, India's Hiranandani Electricity and Bermuda-based Golar LNG — were invited to submit bids for construction by April 15.It is expected to receive and regasify 5 million tonnes a year. The terminal was due for operation by 2012, "but it now seems that it will take beyond the projected timeline to complete the LNG terminal project due to delays in initial works," said Petrobangla chairman Dr Hussain Monsur.
