Bangladesh takes first steps towards power imports

Bangladesh has launched two international competitive tenders to provide the infrastructure needed to import around 500 MW of power from neighboring India. The tenders represent the first step towards connecting the electricity transmission grids of the two countries and for Bangladesh to receive its first ever power imports.rnThe state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh has invited bids to build a 400-kV transmission line to carry electricity from Baharampur in India to Bheramara in Bangladesh. It has also tendered the construction of a high-voltage direct current substation at Bheramara to facilitate the import of the 500 MW of electricity.
