Introduction: Our group and other investigators had revealed a substantial overestimation of Mycophenolic acid (MPA) quantification by EMIT technique (Dade-Behring) compared to HPLC. This bias had been primarily attributable to cross-reactivity of the immuno-suppressive metabolite acyl glucuronide with the antibody used in the EMIT-MPA-Assay. Moreover, the glucuronide metabolites of MPA are unstable in vitro during shipping and sample storage, thus leading to false high MPA concentrations.Objectives: To investigate the influence of stabilisation of plasma samples, by means of acidification, in the quantification of MPA by EMIT, we compared the pharmacokinetic parameters of MPA stabilized versus MPA without stabilized by EMIT assay compared to MPA quantified by HPLC.
