Dairy farmers could significantly increase the dry matter intake - fed via milk - of heifer calves and improve their development in the early stages of rearing, believes one farm consultant.Chris Coxon from the Farm Consultancy, based in Hampshire, says: "Calves have the highest feed conversion rates of any farm livestock at 1.25 to 1, and research has proved there is a direct correlation between the weight of calves at four-weeks old, their weight at six months and also at bulling and at calving."
