Stabilising fermented wholecrop by arresting fermentation has proved necessary on some farms this season, those who have not used this technique could be disappointed by their results. The number of farmers who decided to utilise winter wheat crops for forage last year increased by a third, taking the wholecrop cereals area to more than 12,000ha in the UK, But the apparent boom currently enjoyed by wholecrop cereals could be short-lived unless some farmers think again about the techniques used for preserving the forage.
