YORKSHIRE NOTEBOOK

David farms 183ha in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with the help of his son Mathew. They run a 160-strong herd of pedigree Holstein Friesians, some of which are naturally polled. We are into October and it seems odd that last week we were thinking that we could do with some rain, especially as we had a very wet end of August. A dry September saw our grass growth slow down so much that we are now short of grass around the farm.
