Designing machinery for the Arctic: A problem of socioeconomic development of Russia's eastern regions

The most important factor influencing the choice of trends in research, design, or production as priority areas in Russia is the location of a large share of territories rich in natural resources in zones of cold and extremely cold climate. The industrial and innovative development of these regions cannot be successful without the use of equipment and engineering structures adapted to northern conditions. The history, main principles, and status of such equipment developments in Russia are considered in this article.
