摘要

The 2010 Joint Animal Meeting (JAM) held in Denver, Colorado boasted an all-encompassing and cutting-edge programme, with poultry research high on the agenda. Reviewed are the latest developments in breeder management.Introducing new young males into the flock can counteract the natural decline in fertility which is seen in breeding birds over time. The technique is known as spiking. Interspiking, whereby roosters are moved from one house to another on the same farm,is a means of spiking without the biosecurity risks that come with bringing new birds into the flock. Although a relatively new method, it has already been successful in improving fertility in integrated operations.
