An interview with Jacqui Fletcher

I was lucky enough to train at St Bartholomew's in the 1980s when Pam Hibbs was Director of Nursing, she did the first work on pressure area care and we had a 'wide' range of resources - this in reality was Spenco mattresses, Pegasus Airwaves and the occasional Clinitron bed (none of which are still available) as well as a good choice of dressings. After qualification I moved hospitals and was horrified that I couldn't just ring the porters and order a mattress and that there was a very limited choice of dressings. This infuriated me and I started to try and improve what was available. I even went on what must have been one of the first proper week-long wound care course with Carol Dealey in Birmingham (the certificate is still up on my office wall). After that there was no going back.
