The reliable determination of the crop evapotranspiration is one of the main problems in hydrology, and various models and formulae are used. However, hardly any information is available about the errors these involve. We conducted experiments with various crops over two years, and used the results to quantify the relevant evapotranspiration parameters A comparison showed that commonly used approaches using parameters from the literature involved significant errors. The results also show the importance of taking into account the crop in question and its state of development when determining evapotranspiration.
