Go-ahead given for Venice firefighting system

IN THE wake of the devastating fire at the famous 'La Fenice' theatre in Venice a few years ago, local authorities finally decided to install an extensive firefighting system in the historic city. The first phase of the work consisted of completing seven crossings under seven different canals in the city centre. Using conventional open-trenching technologies this would have taken a considerable length of time, involved high operational costs and caused notable disruption to both tourist and local traffic. It was therefore decided to contact Trenchless Technology Italia (TTI), specialists in Horizontal Directional Drilling technology which had already successfully completed a number of tricky installations in the lagoon city for the renewal of the waste disposal and electrical systems.
