Performance: New global HQ for Goodyear as business recovers

USA - The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, Ohio, last month completed its move into new global headquarters in the City of Akron. The new 639,000 square foot building is to accommodate nearly 2,000 corporate and North American tyre associates, said Goodyear. The new building is connected to Goodyear's existing Innovation Center and serves as a central campus for the company in Akron. The Innovation Center already accommodates 1,000 people. This inauguration of its new global headquarters follows one of the company's best years on record. "Goodyear continued to make measurable progress during 2012," said Richard J Kramer, Goodyear chairman and CEO in his report and accounts statement for 2012. "Over the past year, the economy began to improve in the United States, lifting original equipment sales to automakers, but replacement volumes remained depressed. In Europe, economic weakness continued, and tire sales became increasingly weaker throughout the year. While Latin America and parts of Asia were stable, growth was not robust. That environment was the backdrop for both our successes and challenges over the past 12 months."
