Bangalore - Next month (April 1, 2010), commercial vehicles registered in 13 metros in India are to move from Bharat Stage 3 (BS 3) emission standards to Bharat Stage 4 (BS 4) and those registered throughout the rest of India will move from BS 2 to BS 3. But despite this major emissions change, only a small number of commercial vehicles were likely to be using a common rail system, according to a spokesman at Bosch India during AutoExpo in Delhi at the start of the year. The spokesman explained that of the commercial vehicle sector, approximately just 2% of the vehicles required to meet BS4 standards would likely to adopt use of common rail diesel fuel injection systems; the majority of which will be city buses in non-CNG and public transport designated cities. Truck operators permitted to operate inside cities are expected to register their vehicles outside the city to avoid replacing their vehicles with a BS 4 compliant and more expensive unit with a common rail fuel injection system.
