Mark Wessels keeps and breeds an Aulonacara species from Lake Malawi. Many aquarists in the UK are only acquainted with the Mbuna cichlids from Lake Malawi, whereas on the continent and in the USA the most popular Cichlids from tie lake tend to be the Haplochromine cichlids or 'haps'. Many of the lattrr group are found over the sandy or muddy areas of the shoreline, yet one genus, the Aulonacara can be found in the rocky or intermediate habitat which is between the rocky and sandy areas.
