Routine use of statins in all patients with type 2 diabetes may not be necesary,suggests the author of an editorial published in The Lancet (2004;364:641).Commenting on the CARDS trial (collaborative atorvastatin diabetes study),Abhimanyu Garg,of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre,says that the investigators' conclusion that all patients with type 2 diabetes should receive statin therapy seems "far-fetched".
