摘要

Fingerprints from 276 Malaysian Muslims (141 males and 135 females) in Malaysia have been analyzed. Whorls are more frequent in males (63.2 percent) than in females (38.5 percent), and loops are less frequent in males (36.7 percent) than in females (59.9 percent). The index of pattern intensity displays a higher value in males (16.31) than in females (13.69). The bimanual differences for the occurrence of patterns on the digits of the fight and left hands are not statistically significant in both sexes. In contrast, sex differences for the occurrence of patterns are found to be statistically significant. Incidences of actual symmetry on homologous digits represented 82.4 percent in males and 76.2 percent in females. The mean total ridge counts showed 167.1 in males and 139.0 in females, respectively. Thus, for finger dermatoglyphics the Malaysian Muslims have occurred within the range of Mongoloids and they have shown a great sex difference qualitatively.
