MOUNTSHANNON CAMPAIGN AGAINST CYPERMETHRIN

Thanks for printing our letter about the neighbourhood petition against cypermethrin being used by Coillte in plantations surrounding our homes. Thanks also to the reader who contacted us.Our petition was delivered to the Coillte office in Scariff on 1st February, and the issue received several weeks' positive coverage in The Clare Champion. In the process, we were fortunate to connect up with Andrew StLedger who, as stakeholder representative of the Woodland League, was in a position to submit material for the consideration of the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), who were in the final stages of deliberating over Coillte's application to renew its cypermethrin derogation. A copy of our petition and correspondence with Coillte, plus some photographs we took of spruce saplings planted within a metre of a flowing drainage gulley, were consequently submitted to the decision-makers at the FSC.
