BIOACTIVE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA STARFISH Stellaster equestris

Stellaster equestris, belonging to phylum Echinoderm, class Asteroidea, order Phanerozonia, family Goniasteridae, is widely distributed in the Indo-Western Pacific Ocean, South China Sea, and East China Sea [1]. It is traditionally used as Chinese folk medicine for clearing heat and removing toxicity. However, there is only one literature report on the chemical constituents of the starfish Stellaster equestris, which reported eight cerebrosides isolated from it [2]. In our investigation on the chemical constituents of S. equestris, seven compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate extracts of S. equestris for the first time.
