Forging new territory--Winners of the 2004 Australian Design Awards

Standards Australia's Australian Design Awards has once again rewritten the history books with a sell-out event that has been hailed as one of the best Design Awards ever! More than 750 guests from the local and international design community were witness to an exhilarating showdown of cutting-edge Australian design talent competing at the 2004 Australian Design Awards on Friday 23 April at the Sydney Town Hall. The night was hosted by popular TV and radio comedienne, Jean Kittson, and the announcement of the 2004 Australian Design Award~R of the Year was made by guest of honour, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery, Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia. Of the 61 industry finalists, 20 deserving companies took home a coveted Australian Design Award? for their world-beating product designs, including the Victa Razor Lawnmower, the QANTAS Skybed and the Holden Flexible Architecture Strategy. Of the nominees for Australian Design Award~R of the Year, the top prize was ultimately handed to an elated design team at Ford Motor Company of Australia tor the Ford Territory Crossover Vehicle (pictured). In his moving address, the Governor General of Australia acknowledged that the Australian design industry continues to make great strides with world-class product design and the Ford Territory is no exception. Designed entirely in Australia and from the ground up, the Ford Territory was described by this year's Judging panel as one of the best automobiles ever conceived in the country!
