More History in the Making: Fullerenes Now a Division!

Congratulations to all of those who have made the Fullerenes Group the success story it is today. The ECS Board of Directors, at their meeting this past May, voted to approve the change of the Fullerenes Group into the Fullerenes, nanotubes, and Carbon Nanostructures Division. Fullerenes found a home at ECS back in 1992 when the first fullerenes symposium was held at the ECS meeting in St. Louis. The session was organized by Karl Kadish and Rod Ruoff and sponsored by the Physical Electrochemistry, the Dielectric Science and Technology, and the Electronics Divisions. The growth of the symposium led to the formation of the Fullerenes Group in 1993. At the 2001 annual Fullerenes Luncheon and Business Meeting, members of the Fullerenes Group unanimously recommended that a proposal be prepared for the Group to become the Society's 13th Division.
